Shiny, Happy Paper
Welcome back! Along my Certification journey, one of the classes was taught by the very talented Carissa Wiley. If you know her, it would only be right that her class was called “Let it Shine”.
Carissa’s blog is called “Sprinkled with Glitter”, so she is no stranger to sparkly!
Inspired by her class and a thank you card I received over a year ago, I got to work.
This card rumbled around in my head for a year - then I gave it my own twist.
I started by covering an A2 card front with Dotted Washi Tape. It is a go-to for me when I need a good, simple background. Plus, it’s so darn easy and timesaving!
I decided to copy the stripes in some summer colors, and did a watercolor wash of Pink Diamond, Warm Sunshine, Pumpkin Pie, Parrot and Mountain Mist. I used the color right from the ink pads, by rubbing them on a piece of acetate (that’s fancy talk for a piece of plastic that was lying around). And it’s finished! That was easy! !
For the greeting, I needed something that would “pop”, so I used the Bold Thanks Die Set. It’s a good two-part die, so I was able to use different papers for the letters and the background. I wanted to really pop the glitter paper from the striped background, so I used vellum for the background letters. I actually cut it from vellum 3 times, just to make it literally “pop” off the page! I’m really pleased with the final product.
A card can never have too many shiny things, so I added some Satin Gold sequins in an odd number (much more pleasing to the eye). I really thought about placement, so I placed 3 toward the top, then another 2 near the greeting to bring it all together. Bet you didn’t know there was actual theory behind all this, did you?
I’m so excited about how this turned out! And I’m equally excited to finally be able to put away the inspiration card!
I hope you enjoyed it too!
Take care and be kind,
Sue
