CAS Boutique Cards

What the heck does CAS even mean? It is an abbreviation (because who needs to do all that typing?) for Clean and Simple - a style of card. That style was highlighted in the “Clean and Simple Boutique Cards” class with Altenew co-founder Jennifer Raza. Sure, lots of fancy cutting and layering is pretty, but just not my style. I really think you can say more, without saying MORE, if you know what I mean.

Background stamping really is not my strong suit, but I decided to give it a shot with this really pretty set, Golden Garden. I like the doodled look of this set, and it’s light and airy feel. There’s also the advantage of very easy layering, always a good thing!

First I decided what size of a card I wanted (A2), so I trimmed 1/4 inch off of each side, which gave me a 4 x 5 1/4 card layer. It’s a simple thing, but really makes a card look good, especially if you are stamping off the edge of the paper. It gives a sort of frame to the layer, and highlights the stamped top panel. I started by stamping the flowers in Obsidian Black ink, on the small panel, making sure to stamp some off the edge. This is a way to give some movement to the images on the card.

After stamping the flowers and berry clusters, I went back and added their color layers in Eastern Sky and Maple Yellow inks. I left the clusters in black, just to give the eyes a rest from the two colors. Never be afraid of a little white space on your cards.

Cards need a sentiment, and for this card I used a greeting from the Label Love set. This is one of my favorites - and one of the first Altenew sets I bought. It’s designed to resemble the old labels we used to use for everything. I put this into my MISTI stamping tool (so I could easily reposition it if I had to. What’s the best thing about this set? it’s supposed to look like this!! I Like the grungy look compared to the simple and bold sentiment.

I placed the panel on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 top folding card base, and just like that, it’s complete!

I hope you enjoyed this clean, simple card (CAS) - I really enjoyed making it! Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Take care, and be kind,

Sue
