Cards for the Guys

Everyday, non-occasion cards aren’t just for women to give other women. Occasionally you may want to surprise a special guy with a handcrafted card. But what can you use if you don’t use flowers? This was the question in the class “For the Guys”, and the answer was to create a card that answered the question.

With that in mind, I went to work.

I wanted to use colors that were more “masculine” but weren’t grey or brown. I chose colors from the Fall Harvest ink collection blended Butternut on the background and then ink blended Pumpkin Pie using the Beach Towel stencil. It gave me a good masculine look, that wasn’t so somber.

If you don’t want to use flowers, then use the leaves, right? I went to the Wallpaper Art set, and used a solid leaf image from it. I stamped with Obsidian Pigment ink because of the solid coverage it delivers. I was really pleased with the result. I finished with a greeting from the Sentiment Strips set. It’s a great set - with all the variety of sentiments, it’s perfect for the beginning card-maker!

I think even the guys should get a little bling, so I added some clear yellow dots, and Jet Black dots from the Green Fields Enamel Dots set.

Then - I walked away! The most important thing to know as a cardmaker? When to stop!

I really enjoyed making a more masculine card. It took me out of my comfort zone, pushed me to use colors I normally wouldn’t use, and made me look at a floral set for more than the flowers.

What takes you out of your stamping comfort zone?

Thanks for coming with me through this one —

Take care and be kind

Sue
