(way) Beyond Basic Backgrounds

This was such a fun class - and Lydia’s decorated nails were amazing!!

I really enjoyed it, and I was motivated to do something way out of my comfort zone. So I did MATH! Anyone who knows me knows that math and I are not friends. If we were in high school together, we would NOT be sitting at the same table in the cafeteria, maybe not on the same side of the room!

I had a great idea using the Classy Stripes Stencil and the Red Sunset Crisp Dye Ink set to create ombre stripes. And here’s the math part - I had to count the spaces, and divide the number of spaces by 4 to get an idea of how many of each color I would need to do, so it was symmetrical.

Then I did a LOT of taping:

I had to tape the top edge of the stripes on the edges, then tape off above and below every other set of stripes. I was concentrating so hard, I forgot to take any good process photos! I can say that the Small Ink Blending Tools made this relatively simple.

There are 3(ish) stripes of Blush, 3 of Rouge, and 3 of Crimson, that left one final, center stripe of Velvet.

I thought it needed a strong message, so I used my new favorite word set, Block Sentiments. Then wanted to add some black enamel dots so the black sentiment didn’t look too lonely. That would have been great, but I had none! So I went to a trick I learned from Nicole Watt during one of her virtual classes, I used the Black Artist Marker (from the Green Fields Marker Set) to color the Rock Collection Enamel Dots set.

The finished card - and it looked exactly as it looked in my head!!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my journey, and my math issues. This was great fun, and was quite a different style for me!

As always, take care and be kind,

XO
